Early Life and Foundation

Mr. Gabriel Efe Iwhiwhu was born on June 16, 1953, into the esteemed family of Late papa Ekebe Iwhiwhu and Late Ereniedawe Iwhiwhu in Abraka Ethiope East LGA. A devoted Christian from his youth, his life was guided by faith, a principle that shaped his character and his commitment to service.

From his earliest days, he was instilled with the core values of hard work, discipline, and the paramount importance of education—principles that would become the bedrock of his life’s journey.

His academic path began at L.A. Primary School, Urhoka Abraka, where he studied from 1965 to 1971.
Demonstrating early promise, he proceeded to Orerokpe Grammar School, Orerokpe, for his secondary education from 1972 to 1978. It was here that his intellectual curiosity and leadership qualities began to flourish.

Academic Pursuits and the Call to Service

Driven by a keen interest in the sciences, Mr. Iwhiwhu gained admission to the prestigious University of Calabar.

From 1980 to 1984, he immersed himself in the study of Biological Science, emerging with a degree that equipped him with profound knowledge and a scientific mindset. In the spirit of national unity and service, he successfully completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from 1984 to 1985.

A Stellar Career in Education: From Teacher to Principal

Mr. Iwhiwhu’s passion for shaping young minds led him to a lifelong and distinguished career in education.

He began his professional journey with a contract teaching position in Borno State in 1985. His dedication and skill did not go unnoticed, and on November 25, 1986, he was formally appointed as a Master Grade II teacher by the then Bendel State Government.

His career was marked by steady and merit-based progression. Starting as a teacher at Ijhere Grammar School, his exceptional leadership, administrative acumen, and dedication to student success saw him rise through the ranks to the esteemed position of Principal. He served with distinction as Principal in several schools, leaving a legacy of improved academic standards and discipline wherever he was posted.

His final assignment was at Ojeta Secondary School Abraka, where, after decades of unwavering service, he proudly retired on June 12, 2019.

The Legacy of “OURMAN”

Beyond his official titles, Mr. Gabriel Efe Iwhiwhu was affectionately and widely known as “OURMAN.” 

This nickname was a testament to his unwavering commitment to the advancement of others. He dedicated himself to ensuring that countless young people achieved their dream of attaining a higher education. He was a guide, a sponsor, and a relentless advocate for his students and community members, providing not just academic instruction but also the mentorship and support needed to secure admission into and graduate from universities and polytechnics. To many, he was the pivotal figure who made their academic aspirations a reality, truly earning the title “OURMAN” the person who got things done for everyone.

Family and Personal Legacy

A man of strong family values, Mr. Gabriel Efe Iwhiwhu was a devoted husband, father, and brother. He was blessed with a loving family, survived by his wives, Mrs. Juliana Iwhiwhu and Mrs. Clara Iwhiwhu.

His siblings who shared in his life’s journey: Late Idodo Ekebe, Late Good Ekebe, Ajuchi Ekebe, Late Moneygirl Ekebe, Yellow Ekebe, Late Christiana Okpako Ekebe, Enemute Mary Ekebe, Akpovwera Ekebe, Paul Oviri Iwhiwhu, Late John Erhivwohwoyuvie Iwhiwhu, Goddy Akito Iwhiwhu, and Vero Ogheneruemu Ekebe.

A Life of Impact

Mr. Gabriel Efe Iwhiwhu lived a life of profound purpose, dedication, and service. A faithful Christian, a visionary educator, and a community pillar, he was a true patriarch.
